Last night (Aug. 13) about a dozen of us had the honor of sharing supper with Sister Louise Lears at Karen House. Over the years Louise has helped with the meals this Catholic Worker House provides for the needy and homeless people of the area. There were no tears... just a time of sharing as Louise prepares to depart for Baltimore where she will help care for her mother.
The attic common room was softly lit, and the conversation was kept soft. The outrage we all feel for Archbishop Burke's disgraceful treatment of Louise was hardly mentioned. She knows.
If you didn't see Jesus around last night, He was there with us.
