Catholic Workers from all over the Midwest gathered at Sugar Creek Iowa over the weekend (September 19-20-21) to celebrate. We celebrated the CW movement... we celebrated love and friendship... and we finished with Father Kabot's celebration of The Eucharist on Sunday morning.
Adults numbered 123 and about 20 youngsters scampered around... too quick to count. Food, mostly vegetarian, was shared by all and sleeping accommodations ranged from bunks in the retreat house to tents and sleeping bags under the trees.
Karl Meyer told personal stories about Dorothy and Ammon. Round table discussions shared triumphs and failures of the past year, then turned to broader issues like care of our world. We talked about absent friends and planned for future gatherings and actions.
Saturday night entertainment was provided by skits prepared at least an hour beforehand. The best of them featured Jesus as their principal characters. Maybe we're not always the most reverent group, but Jesus tells great jokes. We loved the jokes... probably because we love Him.
